Declan Rice’s switch of international allegiance has been approved by FIFA:

Declan Rice’s switch of international allegiance from the Republic of Ireland to England has been approved by FIFA.

The 20 year-old announced last month that he wanted to play his international football with England rather than the Republic of Ireland, despite earning three senior caps and playing all of his underage football with the Republic of Ireland.

Today’s news means that it looks almost certain that Rice’s decision to switch international allegiance was decided months ago as it is thought to take 12-16 weeks for the paperwork surrounding the switching of international allegiance to be processed by FIFA.

Rice made his senior Republic of Ireland debut in Turkey on March 23rd last year. A year on, he could be making his debut for England.

England play Czech Republic at Wembley on the 22nd of this month with a clash against Montenegro in Podgorica three days later in the opening Euro 2020 qualifiers. Gareth Southgate names his England squad for those matches next week and it is thought to be likely that Declan Rice will feature in that squad.
